Quan ÂM THIÊN THỦ THIÊN NHÃN
Guishan Guanyin of the Thousand Hands and Eyes
The statue of Guishan Guanyin, Vietnam's national treasure, was constructed in Bút Tháp Pagoda during the Lê Trung Hưng dynasty (16th century - 18th century). The statute synthesizes the universal law of yin and yang, the five elements, and the trigrams, balancing Good - Evil, Light - Dark, Heaven - Earth. Ancient Vietnamese people were aware that the sun was the center of life, thus placing the face of Guishan Guanyin in the center. The dawn sun symbolizes social civilization and the wisdom of the Buddha Guanyin, who goes everywhere to dispel the darkness. Guishan Guanyin sits on a lotus, which is placed on the head of a black dragon, symbolizing that good will always reign evil. The number of arms and eyes implies that Guishan Guanyin will constantly observe and guard the world and its people.
