The silk cloth for the cover is home-dyed using the extraction from cowa fruit as the mordant and shellac as dyestuff. This traditional dying method produces a rich, dark, reddish-purple color for the silk. The paper used for the book was sized with hide glue, becoming more durable and resistant.
